Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith : The Review : The Blog Post

It starts out kinda good. It's a recreation of the scene from Return of the Jedi, but instead of taking the high road, he scissors off Dracula's head.

Then Anakin and Padme are reunited and their inane conversations can begin. It's as if these two have an invented twin language that they use to talk to each other. Their dialogue is forced, and infantile. Here is an actual snippet.

Anakin: You are so...beautiful.
Padme: It's only because I'm so in love.
Anakin: No. No, it's because I'm so in love with you.
Padme: Then love has blinded you?

I speak English. I even know all those words. But I have NO idea what this means at all. No clue. Not even close.

If you watch very closely you can see almost pinpoint the moment when Samuel Jackson has completely given up in this movie. I don't want to spoil it for you.

Obi-wan rides this animal, it's kind of a reptile thing. It's dumb. It looks dumb, and it sounds dumb. I pity the child who received this toy for a Christmas present.

Then Obi-wan fights grievous. Hey, does anybody still have Darth Maul's number? That guy was a blast to watch, can we get him back? No? Oh fuck it, let's just give a bunch of lightsabres to a six armed robot. At least somebody will have a good Christmas this year.

Then some more stuff happens, but I'm too preoccupied trying to decide if James Franco or Hayden Christensen is a more terrible actor. In the end I have to say Franco, only because I'm not sure if it's Christensen's fault. Garbage in, garbage out. Any movie which can make Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman sound like hacks shouldn't be used to judge an actor. And I've never gone out of my way to see another Hayden Christensen movie, so Franco it is. Congratulations James Franco.

Obi-wan gets blasted off of his stupid dragon thing into a pool of water. I'm hoping that thing can't swim. And yes, I understand the Jedi were caught off guard, but it's hard to believe that they could punked so hard.

Then Jimmy Smits shows up and says his 3 lines. Good job Jimmy.

The wookiees kind of send off Yoda like he was E.T. that's funny.

Cool, the Rebel Blockde Runner. That might be the coolest thing in this movie. Jimmy Smits has at least 3 more lines in this scene, I've underestimated him it seems. Scratch that, it was two lines.

I think Anakin sums up his role in this trilogy with "From my point of view it's the Jedi who are evil!". I can't believe this is the guy who turned into Darth Vader.

Obi-wan takes care of him. He calls it out like Babe Ruth.

Then they actually put the armor on him, and he has this incredibly pathetic moment where he's yelling about Natalie Portman and looking completely neutered. Thanks for infecting my original trilogy Darth Vader, George Lucas.

I feel dumber for having seen these movies.

Cardboard Spartan

My Dad once gave me the advice, don't dance on film. Dancing doesn't age well. Something about seeing who you once were, believing yourself to be cool is pretty embarassing. Travolta. I'm looking at you.

Which leads us to today's post.

Fartbuttface created a video that I invite all to see. It's creepy. It's awesome. It reminds me of something I would do as a kid, before I discovered girls.

But my dad taught me not to dance on film. Go ahead. Enjoy.

The thing is, after Star Wars Kid and others like him, I think people are slightly more sensitive to the situation. Not everybody as the comments page shows, but some people are even encourging.

It's such a strange world when people are put on display.

The Game Center CX Episode Guide | crunk games

This is slightly too awesome not to share with the world. This is a Japanese show wherein the host plays a bunch of frustratingly difficult Nintendo games. It's not been translated yet, but subtitled episodes are making their way on to the internets.

He plays Ghosts and Goblins, Super Mario Bros, and Metroid, among other Japanese only games.

Click below for the full review.

New Halo Maps

Reading about Halo "Hunters" today.... and came across this.

From Bungie.net

Azathoth117 asks: Are the orange worm-type thingies in the back of the Scarab the same things as the worms in Hunters, or is it just superficial resemblance?

Bungie: The resemblance is not just superficial. A future DLC map might expand upon that mystery.

So this means two things.

1) From what I've read, the "Hunters" are made up of thousands of little "Eel" like creatures that bind into a super organism. Usually this is the "Hunter" but in Halo 3, they also take the form of the Scarab (that big purple tank what kicks your ass), which appears unmanned, but is actually controlled by the eels.

2) There will be a Downloadable Map in the future which will take place on the "Eel" planet, or will have a Scarab to battle in/upon. I would point to the already mentioned "Purple Reign" Purple = the color of the scarab , Reign/Rain = the type of death which comes from above.

Action Figures are NOT dolls! (says the U.S. Government)

This is old news (2003) but apparently, Toy Biz sued the U.S. Government to prove that the items that they produce are "Action Figures" and not "Dolls" which the Government Agreed to.

Apparently, "Dolls" which are more humanlike, have a higher tariff rate, than mutants, monsters, and meta-humans. The article also says that writers, such as Chuck Austen were surprised and offended at this decision to dehumanize super-heros, which mirrors the suprise and offense that I experienced while reading Mr. Austen's run on Uncanny X-men.

Bungie's next Halo

So... everyone's been wondering. Will they do Halo 4? Should they do Halo 4?

Looking at last week's MLG replays from the Meadowlands I suddenly reazlied.... Halo 3 is big stuff. It's big enough for people to base professional careers upon. It can't just shrivel and die the way of Goldeneye or Max Payne, it's a franchise that needs to constantly reinvent itself.

So... with that being said. It looks like 1up.com has dug up rumors of a new Halo game for 2009.

"we've heard rumblings that the first one will be a Halo spin-off due in late 2009. Our spies tell us to expect a third-person action/adventure shooter hybrid that takes place before the original Halo, chronicling early skirmishes between the ODST troops and the Covenant."

The article also mentions that this may, or may not, be related to the Halo project that Peter Jackson and WETA Digital are working on. Also interesting is the Third Person Perspective, the original Halo:CE was designed to be more of a third person RTS game, interesting to see Bungie go back to it's original game plan, with Halo Wars and this Spin Off.

Halo Wars = DOTA

Listening to last week's Bungie podcast, one of those guys said how much they love Warcraft DOTA and how they could make a billion dollars by having DOTA on a console...

Looks like the new Halo Wars game is going to resemble DOTA! Which would make sense, because there's never been a really successful Real Time Strategy game (like Command and Conquer or Starcraft) on a console, and part of that is due to the micromanagement of all units (grouping them correctly, having them attack in the correct order etc.)

Dota is much more based on a "Hero" type character, and a hack and slash army that backs him up. I could see this format working much better for an RTS console....
